Live Music Is Not Dead-Around the pubs and clubs in the UK there are still many bands playing for only a few pounds to demanding audiences who simultaneously request Chuck Berry and the Arctic Monkeys. The Magic of a Live Concert

Posted by Concert List | Posted in Online Concert | Posted on 11-01-2009

If you have been to a concert ever, you know that the memories will be with you for a long time to come; the atmosphere, side shows, beautiful people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds. Not to mention the kaleidoscope of colors and, of course, the quicken pulse that you experience when you are at a live concert. It is almost surreal at times. You lose track of time, and indeed, for the majority of us, all inhibitions take leave of us.

Aside from the wonderful feeling that one gets at a music concert, one also gets to temporarily suspend all worries and concerns that he or she may dealing with. It is almost akin to taking a hallucinogenic drug to escape them. Without the side effects associated with. The benefits are similar. We all know how the shaky state of the economy is, and how it impacts our livelihood. Yes, your hard earned dollars can only go so far these days. Certainly not as far as it used to. I guess going to a concert will be one way of escaping this feeling of doom and gloom.

It is why a lot of the world renowned musicians are having their concerts sold out! Yes. People somehow manage to spare $30 to $50 for a concert in spite of the financial hardships. Such is the magical power of live music. In all actuality, this has a twofold Benefit: It supports our artists (gone are the days of artists making money by having a hit going platinum) since the internet began to enable people to download music, and we get entertainment which is therapeutic.

In case you think I have forgotten, many relationships, romantic and non-romantic have come about after a meeting at a concert. That indeed is the magical power of concerts. People get groovy and before you know it they get bold enough to approach strangers. Then one thing leads to another. That is how it goes. For those lucky souls to score, the end of a concert does not bring about the sadness which comes with it. You know the reason is they are in cloud nine. All ecstatic and smitten! Is that not a wonderful thing, or what?

Now there are dos and don’ts of concert going. The dos are:

• Make sure you get your concert ticket or tickets well in good time
• Make sure you get your concert ticket or tickets from a legitimate seller
• Take advantage of the convenience of buying from a reputable online ticket dealer
• Last but not least dress comfortably and grab some blanket and portable chairs

The don’ts are:

• Do not wait until the very last day or so to get your concert ticket, or you will risk getting scalped L
• Do not be conned into buying your concert ticket from a shady source
• Ladies should avoid wearing high heeled shoes, preferably.

For those who may want to know the current concerts dates across the USA and Canada, as well sources of reputable online concert ticket sellers, I invite you to check my blog at http://brucespringsteenconcertdates-abomani.blogspot.com – We always strive to provide up to date news on the where, who and when world of music concerts.

Tour Concert Tickets Online

Bands and artists often promote their latest album by doing a tour. As well as its promotional value, the tour also makes a significant amount of profit for the artists, despite the fact that it can be both incredibly hard work to organize and to do, with bands now generally doing tours that cover a number of major cities in a number of countries. The tour is one way for the artists to make some sort of contact with their fans, and playing to a live audience has a fantastic buzz that cannot be simply recreated in the studio. For the fans, the tour is the one opportunity they will get to see their favorite musicians and singers play live, and conveys an atmosphere that you cannot get just from sitting at home listening to a CD.

However, the more popular the band, the harder it is to get tickets to see them, with big name bands such as the Rolling Stones, U2, Bon Jovi, or Jay-Z being quite hard to get tickets for. In these cases, the fans of the bands might have to go to quite a lot of trouble to get hold of tickets, standing in line for ages, just to get a couple of tickets for the gig. They may even end up having to pay over the odds when some unscrupulous person buys more tickets than they really need, and then sells them on at inflated prices.

There are obviously certain disadvantages to buying your concert tickets in the traditional way of standing in line at the box office, and thanks to the internet, we can avoid the inconvenience of all this, and buy our tickets online instead.

Many websites where you can buy tickets for events also have detailed schedules of the performances of all the top acts which you can check out in advance. The sites are also usually a great source of information about your favorite bands and artists, and have numerous promotional articles to generate interest in the performers. The search facility that a website allows comes in very handy when you want to do a search on your on favorite artists, and find out what their latest upcoming tour dates are. You can use such sites as a one stop shop for all the tickets that you want to buy in the near future. Just a few mouse clicks saves you all the bother of a trip to the box office. Payment is very convenient with such sites, and most of them take the major credit cards, which allows you to spread the cost of your ticket buying over a few months.

An added advantage to the advent of websites dealing in event tickets is the element of competition. Because they are all under some pressure to undercut each other, this has the overall effect of bringing down the cost of the tickets, and online you are more likely to find the good bargains than anywhere else.

Overall, buying tickets online as opposed to offline wins hands down in terms of price, convenience and easy access to information.

New Age Music – How It’s Made

New Age Music – How It’s Made-Different styles of music have different “sounds.” We can all pretty much agree on that point. For example, Jazz uses seventh chords almost exclusively. This, and the kind of chord progressions used in Jazz gives it its unique flavor. But what about new age music? Does it have it’s own special ingredients? Yes it does.

Now, there are no hard and fast rules here but for the most part, new age music is a consonant music. That is, there is little or noharshness going on in the music. No Saxes wailing and what not. Having said that we can eliminate most of the tense jazz chords and their voicing. So what are we left with? Mostly Major and minor chords based on the regular scales and the modes. The chord progressions are simpler and usually start on the l chord. No ll-V-l progressions here.

What about melody? In jazz, we have a soloist who usually plays a lot of chromatic notes. This is rare in new age music because it would create dissonance. New age melodies tend to be softer and more on the spiritual side. Solos, if there are any, are not so much concerned with the expression of the self than they are with letting the music express itself. A subtle but very important distinction. Jazz players may have some ego invested in their performance. New age musicians learn to let the music play them. They learn to become a channel for the music itself allowing it to speak through them. Of course, I’m not saying that this can’t happen in Jazz, but, just watch a Jazz performer and you’ll see what I mean.

Last but not least is rhythm. Let’s do a comparison/contrast between Jazz and New Age music. Jazz has a definite discernible rhythm. It is what makes Jazz Jazz. New age music can have a pattern or an underlying rhythm to the music. It can be used to create trance like states in the listener. Drums are usually a part of Jazz music. Percussion is mostly absent from the New Age sound simply because it would not add to the atmosphere most New Age musicians create. Timing is very important to the Jazz musician. The soloist has the freedom to play whatever he wants as long as he maintains the meter and stays in time. New Age music is more elastic in that timing is there, but is not a master of the player. The New Age player can disregard time altogether. Just listen to Zen flute music as a good example of this.

Now, what does all this mean for the aspiring New Age musician? A couple of good things. It means that there is a definite new age “sound” out there. That it is here to stay and that people like and need to hear it. And it means that there are some guidelines out there for what defines the meaning of New Age music.

RAP Music and Brain Washing Issues

RAP Music and Brain Washing Issues-I am not sure if anyone has been watching out there, about the types of music that we are listening to. Let us look at them for a minute. Our grandparents listen to music like; “Happy Days are Here Again, the Skies Above Are Clear Again.” Kids today listen to RAP, which actually starts with a ‘C’ except the ‘C’ is silent in this new spelling and pronunciation. Its really, CRAP. A radio station in TX is actually called K-RAP. Perfect.

It is not that the music is so bad; actually it is good, because its rhythm and cadence puts people in a convergence state of mind. In other words it puts them into theta state of mind and that is where it is easier to suggest a new thought or to brainwash in sleep state. The initiation of such brainwaves is powerful indeed. These tactics are also used in certain churches and Sales and motivational seminars. Also during commercials and government uses them to some degree for important endeavors, for instance cadence in military marching. The gangster rap is not good in that it suggests killing, drugs, other gang activities while putting its listener into the convergence state of mind. This is a negative thing, and may cause these individuals to dwell on certain thoughts and give them ideas that they may with proper gang mentality attempt one or more of the activities talked about in the songs. It would be much better to have songs with that type of cadence, which promoted good deeds and love. Perhaps there are many of these types of songs yet they do not sell very well and I do not here positive rap songs as much as I should. Mostly the Gangster Rap.

Many Techno type songs are also negative in nature. But these songs do not have the proper beats per minute to put a person into a trance like state, where suggestive behavior is introduced that is a throw back to before the human change in society. Is it possible to disallow this type of music? Music is an escape for many people to the fast paced life, and being in a trace state is probably a good state to be in, if one wanted to escape from the world for a while. A strong Bass in a song and certain beats per minute introduce this convergence state, then the subject is 100 percent ready for fresh new input. Theta States of mind are induced and a waken dream state provides for easy subconscious input.

But what are we allowing to be put into these minds of altered state? Songs of this nature are better than drugs, yet the drugs would effect the singular and not the victims of the deed that are done once the behavior of an individual are altered through this convergence. There is freedom of expression in this country yet the listeners are not realizing the effect of the changes as they occur. They are being brain washed while listening to their favorite music. Which become more favored because it puts them in a trace state allowing them to escape from problems of life. Hey no one said life was easy, right? I believe Rappers should be thrown in the trash cans, not littering the minds of our youth. It costs businesses money for graffiti cleaning and tax payers money in police. The cost to society is too great to calculate as a whole, but it is real. Rather than eliminate a cultural phenomena.

Let us instead make each record label and artist (I use this loosely as I do not approve of the RAP, but without passing judgment) produce 10 songs with positive lyrics for every one song of negative lyrics. That solves that problem. People can still escape in their trance state, record companies still make money, the constitution is still upheld, but there will be less negative and more positive thought going on when trance like state is producing more of one chemical in the brain than another. A person in this state is easy to recognize, their eyes are glossy and remain so for while afterwards.

Live Music Dominates New Orleans Nightlife-New Orleans is known as the birthplace of jazz, an honor the city prides itself in. From dim lit jazz clubs lining the city streets to its annual Jazz and Heritage Festival, New Orleans is a great American music city. Jazz isn’t the only music being created in the Big Easy though. Many music clubs and venues offer an eclectic mix of blues, gospel, hip hop, rock and more.

One venue offering up a diverse musical roster is the House of Blues in the French Quarter. Any given week this club can host inspiring musicians and full blown rock stars. A wide variety of musical genres are present at the New Orleans location of this national chain. The heart and soul of the venue besides the music itself is the interesting surroundings and attentive staff. These features give this location its heart and make this corporate club seem more mom and pop. The Sunday Gospel Brunch is also a very attractive weekly event that draws a crowd.

TwiRoPa is the Warehouse District’s premiere music and art complex. This complex houses 100,000 square feet of clubs, music venues, galleries, bars and convention space. The nearly 100-year-old building was once the site of a mill that produced Twine, Rope and Paper. These products are also how this complex received its interesting name TwiRoPa. Live music and DJs are all the rage at this hip location that has quickly made a name for itself.

One New Orleans club that has earned its reputation over time is Tipitina’s Uptown. For over 25 years Tipitina’s has been considered the finest music club in New Orleans. The club is named in honor of its patron saint Professor Longhair for his song Tipitina. The club pays tribute to the New Orleans piano man through performances of local and national artists. Local artists such as the Funky Meters and Galactic regularly play to the crowds and headliners Pearl Jam and Lenny Kravitz have also graced Tip’s Big Stage. The club is a very hot spot during the Jazz and Heritage Festival with its own Fess Jazztival concert series.

Another New Orleans music club steeped in history and tradition is Uptown’s Maple Leaf. Cajun meets Caribbean as this club features a variety of music including reggae and zydeco. The Maple Leaf is a happening spot with a packed dance floor bumping till the wee hours of the morning. Poetry readings and special events round out this club as one of New Orleans finest.

Looking for some rock in Crescent City? The Howlin’ Wolf is regarded as New Orleans quintessential rock club. Here local and national recording artists hone there chops for legions of adoring fans. The Howlin’ Wolf is an unassuming space with a stage, three bars and original artwork from New Orleans artists Lionel Milton and Frenchy. Definitely the spot you want to go for modern rock, the club also features Jazz Thursdays and many celebrated local artists like George Porter Jr.

Local artists and music venues draw their inspiration from Congo Square, the birthplace of jazz. One of these clubs is the famed Funky Butt. This bordello turned club is now the home of modern jazz In New Orleans. Many celebrated and soon to be celebrated musicians have graced the butt’s stage. The club is located in a somewhat rough part of town so a taxi is a better choice than walking to the club.

Traditional jazz fans will want to seek out Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. This hall doesn’t serve or allow food, drinking or smoking. New Orleans style jazz is on the only item on the menu at this rustic hall inspiring to keep traditional jazz alive. The 35 minute sets start at 8:15 pm nightly and includes an intermission. Preservation Hall is a historic jazz experience music fans will want to check out.

Truly a musical city, New Orleans has clubs that cater to anyone’s musical cravings. Creative spaces and incredible talent make the city’s clubs attractive to locals and visitors alike. No trip to New Orleans is complete without a visit to one the city’s fine music venues.

The Live Music Scene in Austin Texas

The Live Music Scene in Austin Texas-There is more live music going on in Austin, Texas on any given night than there is in any other city in the world. That’s why the city has put a trademark on it’s slogan “Live Music Capital of the World.”

There are hundreds of live music venues in the city and its immediate environs. Many are situated in three main entertainment districts: Sixth Street/Red River, the Warehouse district and South Austin. Sixth Street/Red River is the famous sector in downtown Austin that is known around the world for it’s live music scene and often boisterous crowds that fill Sixth Street on the weekends when it is closed to traffic. The Warehouse district runs west from Congress Ave. along Fourth and Fifth Streets. That’s where Antone’s is located, the venue that USA Today has named the best blues club in the country. In South Austin, there are a number of clubs on South Congress, South First St. and South Lamar that offer up some of the best new and original music in town.

The road to its live music capital status began way back in the 1960’s when a spirit of eclecticism appeared with the hippies and anti-war protesters of that era. Inclusion was in and exclusion was out, no pun intended. With the 70’s, this eclectic spirit gave birth to a form of music that was often called progressive country. Joe Ely, along with co-Lubbockites Jimmy Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock, brought this music down to Austin and hooked up with Marcia Ball and Delbert McClinton and cosmic cowboys like Jerry Jeff Walker, Michael Martin Murphy, Rusty Weir and Ray Wiley Hubbard. Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings came back from Nashville during that time to settle in Austin where they could take control of the production of their songs. A wild and powerful musical vortex formed that saw psychedelic rock and roll mix with straight out country and blues at venues such as the Armadillo World Headquarters, Threadgill’s, the Soap Creek Saloon and the Broken Spoke. It was cool to dig the psychedelic sound of the 13th Floor Elevators and the uncompromising country licks of Alvin Crow at the same time.

Then, in 1975, a 30-minute University of Texas music program was accepted by a number of PBS affiliate stations and Austin City Limits was launched and has become the longest running program in the history of PBS. It has propelled Austin to the forefront of the music industry’s consciousness in the US and around the world. That first program featured Willie Nelson, but has since put Texas music notables such as Marcia Ball, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Asleep at the Wheel and many, many others in the national and world spotlight.

In more recent years, the South by Southwest showcase every Spring that brings nearly 1500 musicians and musical acts to town to be seen and heard by industry executives and AR types, along with the Austin City Limits Festival in September, have kept the city on the national music map. In addition, dozens of other smaller festivals are held each year, as well as a number of nationally significant ones in the surrounding Hill Country such as the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Old Settlers Reunion in Buda, just south of town.

The Austin music scene has always been a free-wheeling, break-the-mold, think-out-of-the-box kind of affair. That early eclecticism lives on in the current scene, although some characteristics of the town’s soundscape seem to have become entrenched. Sixth Street/Red River attracts a younger, party animal type of crowd with it’s rock and roll, blues and punk scene. The Warehouse district caters to a bit older and more professional crowd in general. And South Austin retains the feel of Austin in the 70’s with its nouveau hippie coffeehouses and crowds and its preference for good singer/songwriters. Still, there are always exceptions to those general tendencies just about anywhere you go.

Austin remains a city where musical creativity and talent thrive and defy expectations. That can be experienced close up and personal in any number of live music venues on any given night.

Why Music Is Such An Important Creation

Why Music Is Such An Important Creation-If you love music, you are certainly not alone. People around the world spend a large percentage of their lives listening to their favorite music. Music has such therapeutic value that few can stay down in the dumps after hearing it.

Most of the people not only like listening to it but also learning it in various forms. If you are a geek, you can get music software to create your own music. Many try to learn to play musical instruments. Others, with even passable singing voices, aim to train themselves to sing. Then there are those who use dance as a medium to enjoy music. Many actually love composing music and the rest like home recording it.

We are born with a love for music. Children, of all ages, like music. Newborns that are cranky can be soothed with soft, melodious music. Pregnant women, who listen to music, pass on the love for it to their unborn babies. Children, often, pick their interest in music from their parents. If you play country music at home, your child will be more interested in it. Naughty toddlers can dance and give an outlet to their energy through music. In preschools, kids are taught a number of rhymes and songs that they love to listen to and sing. In fact, in early years of schooling, music is always given a significant place in the classes so that a child learns to appreciate music and enjoy his education. You can get great childrens music using free music software that is easily available on many websites.

For lovers, music is everything. Some of the best songs and tunes have been utterly romantic. Who can forget the hauntingly beautiful title track of “Love Story”? Lovers have been using music to express their feelings from ancient times. The ancient tribes in almost any place on earth used some form of music and dancing to attract mates. Whether it was the drums of Africa or the piano of Europe or flute of India, hypnotic music has brought many a couple together. Lord Krishna’s mellifluous flute tunes have made him one of the most romantic Gods ever. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet were known to break into songs to let out their feelings and even today, most of Hollywood’s romantic comedies heavily depend on songs to become blockbusters.

You need great foot tapping music for dance. No matter, who you are or what you do, you definitely love to sway to good music. Such is the mesmerizing power of music that it can take you to places far away and evoke emotions you never though you had. Audio mastering is as easy as it is likable. People, today, use music for every occasion and make life merrier all around.

If you love music, you love life. It can touch souls, pass great messages and change the world. So, sing, dance, compose or just plain listen to music and set your soul free. It is one of the easiest ways to enjoy the moment and live it up.

Free Country Music Internet Radio

Free Country Music Internet Radio-For generations, radio has been a source of information and entertainment. Over the years modern developments have been partnered to match modern trends and needs. With the advent of Internet and computer appliances, most businesses have incorporated functional changes. This holds true even in the case of radio stations that have reinvented their approach towards broadcasting. Country music radio stations no longer serve as a simple medium. To compete with other radio channels, television and Internet sources, free Internet radio has gained popularity. Country music offers a wide variety and it becomes increasingly difficult to classify the different types of classical music. AM and FM country music radio stations previously played a few tracks in a row. Most of these collections had very few classics and listeners had to make do with repeated tracks. This fuelled the need for country music Internet radio.

AM and FM radio no longer dominate as mediums to deliver music. Expansion and development of the satellite and free Internet “radio” has been rapid due to low startup and operating costs. Free Internet radio channels are able to store a large collection of classic country music. For this reason, listeners with diverse country music preferences are able to assess their choices. Numerous free country music Internet radio sources are dedicated to particular genres of country music.

Even though Internet radio evolved over a decade ago, the mechanism is yet to develop to its full potential. Studies reveal that free country music Internet radio sources are a popular choice for younger listeners. Since Internet sources are easy to use, a number of older and retired people have also turned to free country music Internet radio sources. This is because most members of the older generation were a part of the country classic music scene when it was booming.

Music – Who Wants To Live Without It?

Music – Who Wants To Live Without It?-Music has always played a major part of my life, as from the earliest age I can remember classical music constantly playing in our home. Dad had a lot of 78s and an electric player which required frequent needle changes. In fact I used to watch him change them religiously every eight plays – not something he would let anyone else do!!

As children, we used to give singing recitals – especially at Christmas times!! I am grateful for the exposure our parents gave us to music – even if dad was a bit single minded when, in the late 50’s my brother Kenneth, bought home a recording of a new rock-n-roll singer called Buddy Holly I think dad thought it was not proper music and that the record couldn’t possibly be up to the same standard as his Beethoven or Mozart recordings!!

He used to have constant discussions with Kenneth about playing them on his’ radiogram. And as for the Beatles and Rolling Stones records I wanted to play a few years later – no comment!!

Both my two brothers were taught to play classical music on the piano by our Aunty Win. For myself; it was 1962 and I was far too interested in my Uncle Frank’s brand new MGB roadster to concentrate – try as my mum did to encourage me!!

My eldest brother, Robert, turned out to be a highly accomplished musician – playing the French horn professionally for many years. Kenneth, my other brother, in later years, would get all his beer bought for him in the NAFFI bar, bashing out songs when we had a session – mind you he always had a bad head the next day!

After I left home and joined the British Armed Forces, I have to say my mates were not too happy about Grieg being played in the barrack room. Same problem as my dad had – different music. So I had to use earphones to listen to him. But when ‘The Who’ came on – now, that was a different story – then we used to get into trouble with the Duty Sergeant for playing the music too loud!!

Anyway, over the years, I have developed a passion for all types of music and my collection of vinyl records has now grown to include Amadeus Mozart through to Led Zeppelin. But, I guess if I had to pick just one piece of music to take to that desert island it would have to be:

Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra No1 in F Minor, Op 73

My favourite recording of this outstanding piece: (only one of several!)
Deutshe Grammophon 136550 SLPEM (stereo – 1968) Karl Leister, Clarinet, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Rafael Kubelik.

I bought this recording whilst stationed in Germany in 1970 – since then I have obtained other fine recordings of the Concerto, but I find Karl Leister’s interpretation of the Adagio(in particular) perfectly captures Mozart’s objective of writing the most profoundly expressive movement for a solo instrument.

Rap Music – History and Genres

Rap Music – History and Genres-Those who are young or relatively new to the HipHop culture don’t realize that Rap Music has many different genres:

East Coast: The East Coast, most notably New York City, was the genesis for rap music hitting the mainstream. Run-D.M.C. led the pack, with Rakim and Big Daddy Kane also breaking through to make rap emerge as a national phenomenon.

West Coast: While HipHop was cooking in the East, West Coast rap music gained national recognition in the mid-1980s with performers like Ice T and Too $hort.

Dirty South: While most of the music world’s attention focused on rap coming from New York and Los Angeles, HipHop artists in the South were turning to independent music labels to release their work. Geographically, the Dirty South genre encompassed places as diverse as Houston, Birmingham, and Miami, and was greatly influenced by Ghetto Mafia in the mid-1990s. Musically, Dirty South rap is known for is danceabilty and rhythmic delivery.

Gangsta Rap: Some say Gangsta Rap first emerged on the West Coast with N.W.A.’s “Straight Outta Compton” release, while others credit Ice T with taking Gangsta Rap to national acclaim. Characterized by lyrics glamorizing elements of a criminal lifestyle, violence, promiscuity, misogyny, and materialism, Gangsta Rap’s controversy came to a head with the murder of the West Coast Tupcac Shakur in 1996, and the subsequent murder of the East Coast’s The Notorious B.I.G. in 1997.

Pop Rap: Known for its widespread, mainstream appeal, Pop Rap’s first breakout star was LL Cool J. The Fresh Prince and MC Hammer quickly rose to the top of the Pop Rap scene and the music charts with lyrics that were less controversial than those of the Gangsta Rap genre, and thus were more likely to receive radio airplay.

Christian Rap: While HipHop was garnering a reputation for less than savory lyrics and artists for questionable activities, other artists were expressing their faith through HipHop. Christian Rap took off in the late 1980s and early 1990s with rap groups like P.I.D. and S.F.C.

Jazz Rap: Although Jazz Rap has never enjoyed mainstream commercial success, the genre often incorporates Afrocentric and political themes. Gang Starr and Gil Scott-Heron are often cited as two of the first Jazz rappers.

Conscious HipHop: Similar to Jazz Rap, Conscious HipHop has never enjoyed mass commercial success. With an emphasis on social issues, Conscious HipHop isn’t overtly political, but rather deals with issues such as poverty and religion.

Electro HipHop: A combination of dance music and rap, Electro HipHop first emerged in the 1980s on the West Coast from artists like Arabian Prince and Egyptian Lover. By the mid-1990s, Electro HipHop had pretty much run its course.
