Bands and artists often promote their latest album by doing a tour. As well as its promotional value, the tour also makes a significant amount of profit for the artists, despite the fact that it can be both incredibly hard work to organize and to do, with bands now generally doing tours that cover a number of major cities in a number of countries. The tour is one way for the artists to make some sort of contact with their fans, and playing to a live audience has a fantastic buzz that cannot be simply recreated in the studio. For the fans, the tour is the one opportunity they will get to see their favorite musicians and singers play live, and conveys an atmosphere that you cannot get just from sitting at home listening to a CD.

However, the more popular the band, the harder it is to get tickets to see them, with big name bands such as the Rolling Stones, U2, Bon Jovi, or Jay-Z being quite hard to get tickets for. In these cases, the fans of the bands might have to go to quite a lot of trouble to get hold of tickets, standing in line for ages, just to get a couple of tickets for the gig. They may even end up having to pay over the odds when some unscrupulous person buys more tickets than they really need, and then sells them on at inflated prices.

There are obviously certain disadvantages to buying your concert tickets in the traditional way of standing in line at the box office, and thanks to the internet, we can avoid the inconvenience of all this, and buy our tickets online instead.

Many websites where you can buy tickets for events also have detailed schedules of the performances of all the top acts which you can check out in advance. The sites are also usually a great source of information about your favorite bands and artists, and have numerous promotional articles to generate interest in the performers. The search facility that a website allows comes in very handy when you want to do a search on your on favorite artists, and find out what their latest upcoming tour dates are. You can use such sites as a one stop shop for all the tickets that you want to buy in the near future. Just a few mouse clicks saves you all the bother of a trip to the box office. Payment is very convenient with such sites, and most of them take the major credit cards, which allows you to spread the cost of your ticket buying over a few months.

An added advantage to the advent of websites dealing in event tickets is the element of competition. Because they are all under some pressure to undercut each other, this has the overall effect of bringing down the cost of the tickets, and online you are more likely to find the good bargains than anywhere else.

Overall, buying tickets online as opposed to offline wins hands down in terms of price, convenience and easy access to information.

Got Those Concert Tickets Now Have A Great Night

Now that you have your dream concert tickets, how can you guarantee to have a great night. Well the only way is to plan, What you may ask needs planning ”I’ve got the tickets” what else is there well what about the venue, eating before or after, getting there, security and getting home.

Most modern concert venues are extremely large and are capable of holding thousands of people. And almost all of them have multiple entry and exit points a good idea before you arrive at your venue is to know your entry point the last thing you need is to be searching for the right door 5 minutes before the start with 2000 other people.

Parking. It is imperative that you have this worked out beforehand you do not want to walk a great distance both before and after the event or even be looking for parking when you should be in the concert.

Eating before hand is also fraught with danger, what I do is book a restaurant beforehand, at booking I ask them how long does it takes to get served. After all you don’t want to leave the meal half way through, or worse be late for the show and remember don’t drink too much as it will impact on those around you and your own enjoyment.

Getting there and home again is always an important consideration, in many venues there is insufficient parking at peak times, so it is sometimes best to catch public transport check the arrival times and distance to venue from the drop off point, once again you don’t want to be late. Another great thing about public transport is that you are able to have a couple of drinks and not drive home which is always a plus.

Security, after a concert I tend to wait at the venue for 15 to 20 minutes so as to let the crowd disperse it is dangerous when so many people are all trying to leave at the same time. If you are picking up younger concert goers they will be much easier to see once the crowd has gone. Venue security will still be around at this stage thus making it safer for youngsters, remember to designate a specific pick up point for them and give them a mobile phone in case a problems arises.

Whilst this is not a definitive list it does show you that there are things to sort out before you depart home to make things more enjoyable.

Remember to enjoy yourself but be safe

Gateway to Relief – Movie & Concert Tickets

It would only be an understatement and repetition to state that movies or concerts are the greatest stress busters. A formula that like Harry Porters blockbusters never fail. Why only in pepping up people, they are also a sure short remedy for such afflictions like headaches.

Several people have experienced the magical effect of music on a suffering head. Sure enough it squeezes the pain out of ones system and replaces it with freshness that only a man who is suffering from such menace as headache would value.

Similar thing can be said about movies which have the power to carry people along with it and till the time lights are not switched on one is away with Brad Pitt or Sylvester Stallone doing some unbelievable action sequence. Sure enough poor headache would find that there is no place for it and very soon would vanish!

It would therefore not be a misnomer to conclude that tickets to movies or concerts are like gateway to relief. Then, whether it is a case of depression or physical affliction, both music and movies prove to be the greatest healers.

Top 5 Hottest Concert Acts of 2007 – Currently Playing at a Venue Near You

With more and more music being written and recorded every day there are a variety of concert choices out there for the discerning music fan. The problem is choosing which ones are worth spending that hard earned weekly paycheck on. Fear not, help is on the way. Take the guesswork out of who to see this holiday season. This article takes a look at the Top 5 most popular (currently playing) concert acts of 2007.

Choose an act below and get your concert tickets today. Millions of satisfied concert-goers can’t be wrong.

1. Hannah Montana: Hannah Montana is currently touring with the Jonas Brothers as well as her own Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Tour. The non-stop choreography, lighting, and costume changes only add to the exceptional lyrics and singing. The high-tech presentation gives you multiple big screens for additional views and fireworks to add to the excitement. The crowd pleasing Hannah even struts her stuff on a crowd splitting ramp that puts her as close to her fans as possible. The Jonas Brothers are a treat themselves, but when combined with Hannah, it truly becomes a show to remember. Pack your checkbook though, massive back-market pricing means some tickets may cost you as much as $2,000 for those first 10 rows. Yes, that’s not a typo moms and dads.
2. Billy Joel: Along with a list of Rock and Roll stars coming back to tour this year is the Piano Man, Billy Joel. From the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to the small piano bar sets he started in, Billy Joel still has the same sharp piano fingers that he had in his younger days. Pulling out some old, rarely heard songs, and new songs alike, the performer shows that he is still at it, and so is his band; with Carl Fischer on trumpet/flugelhorn and Mark Rivera on Sax there is little missing from the original sound. With a rotating piano and a piano cam at his fingers, there is nothing you will miss in this tribute to many years of rock and roll.
3. The Police: An oldie, but a goodie, the Police are at back at it again with their new tour Fiction Plane. Their Paris, France, concert sold out for 2 shows with gross sales of over $15,000,000 (Reuters) showing that they are still as popular as ever. After all these years Sting’s voice is still holding strong and the Police have added some new twists to your old favorites. Andy’s guitar riffs are brilliant and the Stewart is all over the stage with drums and crowd interaction. A great show for music fans of all ages.
4. Fall Out Boy: Moving into the spotlight and out of their post-hardcore scene they are expanding their sound to include pop, r&b, and an occasional ballad. This band puts on a show of pyrotechnics and projected content to enliven all your senses. The bands suburban Chicago style, contrasting personalities and easy to sing-a-long choruses only add to the intensity of this concert.
5. Bruce Springsteen: With two sold out shows at Madison Square Garden last month grossing over $2 Million (billboard.com), At 58, Springsteen shows that he is still “The Boss.” With age and experience he brings a soulful abandonment to his new album “Magic” that attests to the vitality of rock ‘n’ roll. Searching for all that we have lost or missed thru our years, Springsteen touches the hearts and minds of concert goers moving thru the compromises and disillusionment of life. The rambling keyboards, the electric guitar high-lights, the raging piano solos give way to a slow melancholy Irish folk song that leaves you gliding across the moors on your journey home.

A concert is an experience to be felt, where the ticket holder is not only a spectator, but a participant riding on the tails of the musical notes. With any good concert there is the emotional high, the physical exhaustion, and the mental stimulation to relive thru every repeat chorus you hear on the radio. So go buy some tickets, and have an experience that you will never forget.

Casey Markee is a consultant with Ticket-Venue.com, one of the internet’s premier providers of high-quality tickets to events nationwide. He hates to buy tickets but when he needs cheap concert tickets or cheap Hannah Montana tickets he only uses Ticket-Venue.

Orchestral Concert by Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, La Vila Joiosa, 9 January 2008

To live in a Mediterranean climate with year-round access to the sea, good food and wine, plus magnificent scenery would be enough. To have access to three symphony orchestra venues within ten kilometres of the front door is a priceless bonus. The Palau in Altea is long established, whilst the Auditori Mediterrania in La Nucia is entering its second year. But this week we have the inaugural concert series of the Teatre Auditori de La Vila Joiosa, in whose steeply-raked, red, black and white surroundings the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra played last night, 9 January 2008. Under their supremely gifted director, Josep Vicent, the orchestra, resident in Communidad Valenciana since 2005, offered five twentieth century orchestral works. As ever, the programme was beautifully and expertly played by this excellent band and, once again, Josep Vicent’s choice of content was outstanding, his conducting masterful.

The evening began with Short Ride on a Fast Machine by John Adams. It is a miniature concerto for orchestra, played against an insistent percussion beat. For me the piece is a parody, an update of Arthur Honnegger’s Pacific 231, a piece with which it shares significant structural similarities. In the 1920s, the cutting edge of Honnegger’s musical depiction of speed was the railway engine. For John Adams in the 1980s it was a motorbike. It is uncanny how both pieces change rhythm half way through, both restating their pulse through the low brass of tuba and trombone. Adams’s motorcycle is less heavily engineered than Honnegger’s railway engine, however, and is definitely a lot quicker off the mark.

Josep Vicent’s second choice was Ravel’s La Valse, a piece I find thoroughly surreal. In theory, it’s an extended waltz for orchestra, but in places the music and its dance rhythms are so stretched and pulled out of shape as to render the effect brooding, even threatening. When the waltz theme emerges relatively intact, it seems super-real, almost over-stated and thus incongruous. Ravel’s masterly orchestration provides surprises and arresting juxtapositions of sonority. The Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra was able to show off its admirable ensemble and individual virtuosity throughout this strange, strange piece.

The concert’s first half concluded with a performance of Ravel’s G major piano concerto, with Canaries-born Iván Martin as soloist. I would dearly love to write more of the orchestra’s superb playing of this deceptive piece, but not to give complete prominence to Iván Martin’s playing would be criminal. He made the solo part sound effortless, kept a wonderful pace and was perfection indeed across the rhythmic syncopations. But he was especially convincing in the slow movement, when the piano plays throughout. It all sounds deceptively simple, and too often the movement is presented as sentimental or comes across as a platitude. Not so in this performance, when it was sincere, elegant, dignified and not a little noble. Again Ravel is deceptive, offering polyrhythms and occasional conflicts of keys within an overall impression of lightness and jazz.

Pursuing what was now emerging as a theme, the second half began with another work that presented popular idiom in a challenging way. This time it was Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. The Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra grew to gargantuan size for this piece, with a veritable battery of percussion, plus obligato finger snapping. But the piece is tough beyond the imagination of a listener who knows only the musical’s famous tunes. It’s a real orchestral tour de force and was a triumph of the player’s virtuosity.

The evening’s final piece was again a virtuosic, tough-edged celebration of popular idiom. Manuel de Falla’s suite from his ballet, The Three Cornered Hat, owes much to the flamenco of his native Andalusia. It has many spectacular moments where the music speeds and slows with the bravura of a macho showman dancer. And so the concert moved accelerando towards its thunderous conclusion, a racket matched only by the enthusiasm of the applause.

And, by the way, the area is likely to have another concert hall in a year or so. Plus, if you missed the concert in La Vila, it’s repeated next week in La Nucia. I shall be attending for a repeat performance. Artistry of this quality cannot be missed.

Farm Aid 2008 Concert a Great Success, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson and Neil Young

Posted by Concert List | Posted in Concert List | Posted on 14-01-2009

According to Neil Young, Farm Aid’s greatest accomplishment is in its spirit. Ask America’s Farmers and I think many would agree. More than the money it has raised, Farm Aid has generated awareness throughout America – in fact, throughout the world.

Farm Aid was formed 23 years ago by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp as America’s farmers were struggling to keep their farms. An annual concert event, Farm Aid has since raised more than 30 million dollars and 2008 is sure to be a banner year.

Farm Aid came to Mansfield, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Farm Aid had never been held in its home state of Massachusetts and the timing was perfect. And with New England weather being ever unpredictable, someone put in a good word with Mother Nature; we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day in New England!

Farm Aid’s mission is to ‘keep family farmers on their land’. Farm Aid does this by “Promoting Food from Family Farms, Growing the Good Food Movement, Helping Farmers Thrive and Taking Action to Change the System”. Farm Aid’s volunteers and family farmers were out in full force to spread the word to the 20,000 attendees at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

At Farm Aid 2008 were food vendors who sold only organic or farm sourced food. Not your average concert food of pretzels, hotdogs and candy bars, concert-goers were able to purchase grilled corn on the cob, pork chop sandwiches, burritos with about 10 choose-your-own fixings, fresh fruit, caramel apples, fruit smoothies, nachos, veggie burgers, hamburgers, pizzas and of course lots of beer.

Aside from the food and beverage vendors, Farm Aid sponsors were giving away bags and back packs, lip balm, photos, organic milk samples and much, much more.

And for those who wanted to speak with farmers and learn more about what and how they do what they do, there was the HOMEGROWN Village. Concert-goers even had the opportunity to get their own hands dirty in compost!

The doors to Farm Aid opened at noon and the concerts began around 1:30. The first few groups sang only 2-3 songs each. We heard from One Flew South who sang their newly released song My Kind of Beautiful, which was a highlight of my afternoon! They sound great on their CD, but in person they sound even better!

Jakob Dylan and the Gold Mountain Rebels sang 4-5 songs. Jakob was fantastic and looks and sounds more like his dad as the years pass! Consider it a compliment.

We also heard from The Pretenders, who showed us that even after nearly 30 years and all new band members, Chrissie Hynde is truly an artist who has stayed faithful to her rock and roll roots.

Besides One Flew South, I was most looking forward to seeing legend and Rock n Roll Hall of Famer Jerry Lee “Killer” Lewis perform. And he was fantastic! Jerry Lee Lewis performed 5 songs, including Roll Over Beethoven, Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On, and my favorite Great Balls of Fire! I never would have thought that the whole pavilion would be on their feet for Jerry Lee Lewis, but that’s exactly where they were! It was spell binding and Jerry Lee proved exactly why he is a legend! I have now seen one of the greatest Rock and Roll legends of all time and I can’t tell you how exhilarating it was!

Around 6:30 pm Kenny Chesney was set to take the stage. Swoon. Kenny performed about 8 songs, acoustically. That was a surprise. I had never seen Kenny perform but had seen and heard some of his concerts on video, so I was expecting BIG and crazy!

Kenny sat on a stool, along side two other musicians, and he sang some great songs. Willie Nelson came out to help Kenny with his final two songs and I have to say I never laughed harder when Kenny sang the lyrics (which I had never before heard), “at two I went home with a 10 and at 10 I woke up with a two!”. He laughed about it with the audience and told us that he’s certain it has happened to a few of us too!

After Kenny Chesney came Farm Aid board members Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Willie Nelson. I can’t say enough about their performances, so I’ll encourage you to go to the Farm Aid Web site yourself and watch their performances! They are nothing short of stellar!

Other performers at Farm Aid 2008 included Arlo Guthrie, moe., Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Steve Earle, Nation Beat, Jamey Johnson, Jesse Lenat, Will Daley (from Boston!), Danielle Evin and someone new on my radar, The Elms!

Presented by Whole Foods Market and Horizon Organic and hosted by Carson Daly and Bob Costas, Farm Aid 2008 was broadcast live on Direct TV, who announced that if Direct TV subscribers donated to Farm Aid they would match their contributions to $50,000. Watch interviews of performers and supporters by Carson and Bob at FarmAid.org.

Hannah Montana Concert Tickets – Can We Really Afford to Say No?

Posted by Concert List | Posted in Concert List | Posted on 13-01-2009

0

I was going to tell you that the cost will be worth it. But I’m not sure I can. No one can. You know yourself, your business, your finances, your savings, your kids, your parenting. I can give you all the information in the world, but only you can make the decision. You know I spent hours on the web looking for articles I could send to you. To help you overcome this craziness. Because that’s what it is, crazy. I mean come on, a 14 yr old with this much power. And she’s the innocent one. It’s the news, the media, the paparazzi, the neighbors next door going to the concert, peer pressure, your kids puppy dog eyes, the scalpers, the sell out, that’s making it near impossible, you might as well win the lotto.

So, instead of other articles, I decided to share my own, personal story with you.

I remember a memorable time with my oldest daughter, Jennifer, who is 24 years old. We went to see the “So You Think You Can Dance” Tour of 2006 with Benji. What a blast! After the show a crowd gathered outside the back door to try to catch a glimpse of the dancers coming out. 1 ½ hours we waited. It was fun though, talking to the other fans, reliving the dances, the season and the stories of how we got our tickets. Finally, the dancers came out and stayed out and visited, talked and took pictures with all of us. I mean I have a close up with Benji and myself as if we are a couple. My daughter with her favorite, Travis. I think they must of stayed out 1 ½ hours with us. It was very memorable, very much worth it. Getting the tickets was my first try in a very long time. It was the same story as I have heard over and over again now as with Hannah. I was on the phone, my daughter was on another phone, both of us at 9:55 am. Operator says tickets are going fast better get them quick. And what took up time was the shock we were in, saying over and over again, how could that be, it’s only 10:02.

Eventually we got tickets. But then getting to the arena was another story, traffic, getting lost, being late. But after all was said and done, what an experience we had together. I can’t tell you what it meant to share the experience with her. As we sat in the car going home I could hear the words she was saying, Oh my gosh mom, I can’t believe it, that was great, over and over again as she looked through her pictures on her digital camera. But her face, I’ll never forget. Her wind blown hair, a tear in her eyes, the blush on her cheeks, the grin and smile just enhanced her beautiful face. She was my ‘little’ girl again. I did it, I made her completely happy which made me feel free, light as a feather, nothing else mattered at that moment. Sounds a little crazy huh. Not to me, and not to her. And that’s all that matters. I wouldn’t change it for anything.

So…am I suggesting that you bear down and pay the price no matter what. Go for that total happiness high with your 8 year old. Not necessarly.

But…it might be right for some of you. Look it took me 24 years to get that high with my daughter, it might take you 8 it might take you 34. That doesn’t mean this concert is right for everybody. Look – I look at it in a different perspective. When you go to Vegas you bring what you can afford to lose, and you have a great time. You don’t really expect to bring the $ home right. So IF you CAN afford to lose it to higher scalped prices, (because face it, you probably by now aren’t going to get one at face value), and when you get home you can STILL pay your mortgage, do it, do it, do it. You wouldn’t regret it. Make it a date night, Do it up, go out to dinner, get her a Hannah hair do, do each others nails, no interruptions, give her all you attention for those few hours. You won’t regret it.

But, if you can’t seriously afford it, don’t. Some experts say as time goes on, prices go down. Maybe they will become more affordable for you, but still maybe even if they come down, maybe its not right for you, right now. It’s a game, and not a fun one. Don’t consider yourself a loser, or a disappointment to your child. Will they be sad, absolutely. Will they recover, absolutely, and you can be a big part of that. You can show your child the new articles, have them read them, or read to them all the commotion this tour has brought. The thousands of kids, some very ill wishing they could fulfill their dream to see Hannah. This concert is not the end to Hannah or Miley or your child.

Good luck.
