Country Music originated in early 20th century among the whites in Rural areas of West and South. The roots of this music lie in Ballads, English tunes and Folk tunes. The term Country Music replaces what is popularly called Hill Billy Music.

Country Music has been associated with cowboy hats and boots. The fact is that apparel has got nothing to do with it. One of the veterans, Travis Tritt doesn’t wear a hat. Country Music is a genre that means disparate things to disparate people. If you look over at their interpretations, you will find for some it’s Johnny Cash’s weather beaten crooning or Shania Twain’s prancing-pony burlesque. Right since the beginning of the 21st century, music industry is divided and quite fractured as to what really the Country Music is. Virtually all people say that, when they hear it, they know its country or its not.

The relationship is one if hate and love, either listeners love it and hate other genres intensely. If you have met some hardcore country listeners, you will notice, they’ll always find a way to hear it, no matter what state country radio currently finds itself in. Even if an  artist’s  presence on country radio represents a certain type of success or acceptance, there’s no doubt that “real” country is always happening in the margins, in venues and coffeehouses, and on smaller labels or self-produced records.

Recently wonderfully wonderful divergent country records have been released by women artists like, the Dixie Chicks’ “Home,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, knocking Eminem down a bit. The other two, Kelly Willis’ ” easy ” and Allison Moorer’s “Miss Fortune,” are furthermore hailed as wonderful country music. These two artists are not quite famous but they have a solid fan following. American Country Music is being popularized by many artists like Rhonda Vincent, Mandy Barnett, Brad Paisley, Hank Williams III and Danni Leigh.

Country Music has an association furthermore, the Country Music Association (CMA), founded in 1958 in Nashville, Tennessee. It originally consisted of only 233 members. This was the first trade organization formed to  encourage  a music type of. The objectives of the organization are to  lead and enhance the development of Country Music throughout the world. They wish to show that it is a viable medium to advertisers, consumers and media. It provides a unity of purpose for the Country music industry.

The association presents annual wards additionally. Annual awards are given in the following twelve categories : Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Horizon Award, Vocal Group, Vocal Duo, Single, Album, Song, Music Event, Music Video, and Musician.

An academy for this type of, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) was founded in 1964 in Los Angeles, California. It was originally called the Country & Western Music Academy; and was formed by people who wanted to share their love of Country music.

Country Music had a session following earlier but now it is gaining number of audiences day by day. Loud tuned , wonderful lyrics, special effects mark the many performances held in America by many country artists.

Country Music Goes Pop?

The complaint heard all over Nashville from the insiders to just the country music listeners of old is that there is too much pop music influencing many country performers making the songs what many are calling country pop making that a sub- type of its own.

The performer at the head of the country pop movement is undoubtedly Taylor Swift, not saying she is the first one to do it but she is the first one to really have success at it. Not only has she’d success with top-40 radio but she recently did a taping with MTV’s TRL which is a rarity and al the majority unheard of in country music.

many individuals look at country pop as a terrible thing that it ought to be denounced or looked at as cheapening the rich culture of country music but if you look at the sales charts it is in my opinion stimulate ing country musicians as a whole as it is exposing many young audiences and audiences that can never have given country music a chance now to give a listen to an performer like Taylor Swift, Chuck Wicks, or Rascal Flatts then move on to other musicians such as Alan Jackson or Jason Aldean who are more traditional country.

If you attend a Taylor Swift show, if you could get tickets that is, there are thousands upon thousands of screaming young girls who are not only buying her albums but they are buying all kinds of merchandise and Taylor is famous for staying hours after a show to make sure anybody who wants something signed will get it, and optimum of all she takes her time with each person making them feel special which really makes her special. No w if she could get over the hump of a sophomore slump and her possibly outgrowing her fan base then she will be around for years to come.

If you look at the sales charts when all of the music business is down country music is staying strong and evolving to take over part of mainstream is something country has tried for a long time and they’re officially accomplishing it now, so could be some pop in my country music is not as bad as I think or a lot of individuals think.

Country Music: Music for Every Generation

Although it may seem that country music has been around forever, it has actually only been around since the early 20th century. Although some may call it “cowboy music” the roots of country music may actually be found in the blues, gospel, Celtic and folk music. It began in the early 20th century in the Appalachians of the southeastern USA. Country music is the “working class” music of the south. It oftentimes tells a story or has a moral. In today’s fast-paced, high-tech world, it’s amazing that “old fashioned” country music still has a place in the hearts of so a lot of -even if you listen to it on your ipod or MP3 player.

The 1st country music recording that really got noticed has been of Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter family back in 1927. This type of music had been around for a few years before that, but this has been the “breakthrough album” for the type of. Jimmie Rodgers played what has been called “country folk” and related stories with his songs. He sang about everything from alcohol to women and even included humor in a lot of of his songs. The Carter family has been multi- skill ed and not only sang beautifully, but additionally played skillfully on guitars and other stringed instruments in true Appalachian tradition.

The next “pioneer” of the country music industry was Hank Williams Sr. He took cues from his predecessor, Jimmie Rodgers and sang tunes about life, love, and loss. He died young, just as Mr. Rodgers did but not before passing on his musical genius to his children and eventually his grandchild.

The country scene differ d in the 1960’s just like everything else in the United States. Two branches broke apart and one followed the traditional and the other put more emphasis on a smooth solo vocal and less emphasis on solo instruments- like the rock and roll of the day. This division continues to some degree today.

Still another extensive division occurred in the 1990’s when some of the young performers blended the country sound with some rock and other sounds. This led to more disharmony and some protests by the “old” school country performers.

Music – Who Wants to Live in the absence of It?

Music has always played a major part of my life, as from the earliest age I might recall classical music constant ly playing in our home. Dad had many 78s and an electric player which necessitated frequent needle vary s. In fact I used to watch him vary them religiously every eight plays – not something he would let anybody at all else do!!

As children, all of us used to give singing recitals – especially at Christmas times!! I am grateful for the exposure our parents gave us to music – even if dad was a bit single minded when, in the late 50’s my brother Kenneth, bought home a recording of a new rock-n-roll singer called Buddy Holly I think dad thought it was not proper music and that the record couldn’t possibly be up to the same standard as his Beethoven or Mozart recordings!!

He used to have constant discussions with Kenneth about playing them on his’ radiogram. And as for the Beatles and Rolling Stones records I wanted to play a few years later – no comment!!

Both my two brothers were taught to performance classical music on the piano by our Aunty Win. For myself; it has been 1962 and I has been far too interested in my Uncle Frank’s brand new MGB roadster to concentrate – try as my mum did to  encourage  me!!

My eldest brother, Robert, turned out to be a highly accomplished musician – playing the French horn professionally for many years. Kenneth, my other brother, in later years, would get all his beer bought for him in the NAFFI bar, bashing out tunes when all of us had a  set – mind you he always had a bad head the next day!

After I left home and joined the British Armed Forces, I have to say my mates weren’t too happy about Grieg being played in the barrack room. Same problem as my dad had – varying music. So I had to use earphones to listen to him. But when ‘The Who’ came on – now, that has been a varying story – then we used to get into trouble with the Duty Sergeant for playing the music too loud!!

Anyway, over the years, I’ve developed a passion for all categories of music and my collection of vinyl records has now grown to include Amadeus Mozart through to Led Zeppelin. But, I guess if I had to select just one piece of music to take to that desert island it’d have to be -

Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra No1 in F Minor, Op 73

My favorite recording of this outstanding piece -  (only one of a few !)

Deutshe Grammophon 136550 SLPEM (stereo – 1968) Karl Leister, Clarinet, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Rafael Kubelik.

I bought this recording whilst stationed in Ger a lot of in 1970 – since then I have obtain ed other fine recordings of the Concerto, but I find Karl Leister’s interpretation of the Adagio(in particular) perfectly captures Mozart’s objective of writing the most profoundly expressive movement for a solo instrument.

The Growth of Country Music

Country music originated from the old folk music that the pioneers sang and played as they session tled across the country. They used wagon trains. That is where a group of individuals drive their wagons across the country is a single file trying to go further west. At night they would event and the ones that may play fiddles, banjo, and guitars, would play and make up tunes about their experiences on the trail.

Then came along individuals like the Carter family members and Jimmy Rodgers (the singing brakeman) and they came up with a newer style of country songs. Nonetheless everything has been acoustical, no electrical instruments. When wannabe singers heard Jimmy Rodgers, they all wanted to sing like him. His singing had confidence and you can hear it.

The Grand ole Opry started expansive casting in 1925. This let millions of individuals hear folk and country music all across the country. The Louisiana Hayride started in 1948 and a lot of singers got their start there. The radio shows made a lot of young kids want to sing, and a lot of them did come on and make stars, each bringing a new style to country music. Recording companies then didn’t want you to sound like somebody else, they want your sound. Assuming that they like d it you got a contract.

When Hank Williams was on the hayride, I had a nice friend playing for the hayride. He was playing when Hank had seven encores for lovesick blues. Then everybody wanted to sound prefer Hank Williams. Hank was top dog, then came Elvis to knock him off the mountain. Of course Hank had died before Elvis made it. However Hank was on top after his death.

Every year country progresses to something new. Still there’s a lot of people that do not progress with it. A lot still like the old traditional type of country. That is what makes the world go around.

Stuck in a music rut?

It happens. After listening to your preferred song 1,379,614 times, you will, eventually, get sick of it.

So you find a new preferred song, all too aware that you’ll soon grow as tired of it as your previous pick.

This is even more likely to happen when you only listen to one type of music, a habit I have never subscribed to and have a incredibly hard time wrapping my mind around (my mind’s not large enough to stretch that far). With all of the wonderful types of music available, why limit yourself to one or two genre s?

Do yourself a favor and start branching out. Sure, you love country music, but is it really going to kill you to listen to some Rythm and Blues? Or might be you are all about hip-hop – who’s to say you won’t find a rock song you prefer just as well? I’m always so impressed when I hear an individual list their favorite tunes – and the tunes actually cover a few genre s. Or decades! (Yes, oldies are good ies.)

Next time you hear your fave song come on the radio (you know, the one you’ve heard over a million times), think about actually turning away from it. Head over to the station you listen to the LEAST – your new preferred song can be waiting for you.
