Country Music originated in early 20th century among the whites in Rural areas of West and South. The roots of this music lie in Ballads, English tunes and Folk tunes. The term Country Music replaces what is popularly called Hill Billy Music.

Country Music has been associated with cowboy hats and boots. The fact is that apparel has got nothing to do with it. One of the veterans, Travis Tritt doesn’t wear a hat. Country Music is a genre that means disparate things to disparate people. If you look over at their interpretations, you will find for some it’s Johnny Cash’s weather beaten crooning or Shania Twain’s prancing-pony burlesque. Right since the beginning of the 21st century, music industry is divided and quite fractured as to what really the Country Music is. Virtually all people say that, when they hear it, they know its country or its not.

The relationship is one if hate and love, either listeners love it and hate other genres intensely. If you have met some hardcore country listeners, you will notice, they’ll always find a way to hear it, no matter what state country radio currently finds itself in. Even if an artist’s presence on country radio represents a certain type of success or acceptance, there’s no doubt that “real” country is always happening in the margins, in venues and coffeehouses, and on smaller labels or self-produced records.

Recently wonderfully wonderful divergent country records have been released by women artists like, the Dixie Chicks’ “Home,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, knocking Eminem down a bit. The other two, Kelly Willis’ ” easy ” and Allison Moorer’s “Miss Fortune,” are furthermore hailed as wonderful country music. These two artists are not quite famous but they have a solid fan following. American Country Music is being popularized by many artists like Rhonda Vincent, Mandy Barnett, Brad Paisley, Hank Williams III and Danni Leigh.

Country Music has an association furthermore, the Country Music Association (CMA), founded in 1958 in Nashville, Tennessee. It originally consisted of only 233 members. This was the first trade organization formed to encourage a music type of. The objectives of the organization are to lead and enhance the development of Country Music throughout the world. They wish to show that it is a viable medium to advertisers, consumers and media. It provides a unity of purpose for the Country music industry.

The association presents annual wards additionally. Annual awards are given in the following twelve categories : Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Horizon Award, Vocal Group, Vocal Duo, Single, Album, Song, Music Event, Music Video, and Musician.

Country Music is getting lot more world wide attention following the Country Music Annual Awards was shifted to New York.

An academy for this type of, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) was founded in 1964 in Los Angeles, California. It was originally called the Country & Western Music Academy; and was formed by people who wanted to share their love of Country music.

Country Music had a session following earlier but now it is gaining number of audiences day by day. Loud tuned , wonderful lyrics, special effects mark the many performances held in America by many country artists.

The complaint heard all over Nashville from the insiders to just the country music listeners of old is that there is too much pop music influencing many country performers making the songs what many are calling country pop making that a sub- type of its own.

The performer at the head of the country pop movement is undoubtedly Taylor Swift, not saying she is the first one to do it but she is the first one to really have success at it. Not only has she’d success with top-40 radio but she recently did a taping with MTV’s TRL which is a rarity and al the majority unheard of in country music.

many individuals look at country pop as a terrible thing that it ought to be denounced or looked at as cheapening the rich culture of country music but if you look at the sales charts it is in my opinion stimulate ing country musicians as a whole as it is exposing many young audiences and audiences that can never have given country music a chance now to give a listen to an performer like Taylor Swift, Chuck Wicks, or Rascal Flatts then move on to other musicians such as Alan Jackson or Jason Aldean who are more traditional country.

If you attend a Taylor Swift show, if you could get tickets that is, there are thousands upon thousands of screaming young girls who are not only buying her albums but they are buying all kinds of merchandise and Taylor is famous for staying hours after a show to make sure anybody who wants something signed will get it, and optimum of all she takes her time with each person making them feel special which really makes her special. No w if she could get over the hump of a sophomore slump and her possibly outgrowing her fan base then she will be around for years to come.

If you look at the sales charts when all of the music business is down country music is staying strong and evolving to take over part of mainstream is something country has tried for a long time and they’re officially accomplishing it now, so could be some pop in my country music is not as bad as I think or a lot of individuals think.

The PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR marks the first-ever tour solely benefiting suicide prevention in history. The month-long trek will launch Thursday, October 22nd at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC and wrap up with a two-night stand at Stubbs in Austin, TX November 20 and 21.
The PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR will launch with a press conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC Wednesday, October 21 at 10:00 AM. Justin Furstenfeld, the lead singer of Blue October, will be on hand to speak and perform an acoustic set before members of Congress as well as supporters of the tour partners 1-800 SUICIDE, PostSecret and TWLOHA.

Justin–who has struggled with bi-polar disorder most of his life–will be calling on Congress to fund both creative writing and art therapy programs as alternative options for mental health. The press conference will also urge Congress to fully fund the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act which provides the funding behind the majority of the suicide prevention programs in the United States today. The press conference is open to all on a first-come first-served basis, to RSVP, email TWLOHA: PUTP@TWLOHA.com.

The PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR is created through a partnership between the non-profit organization To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), the largest charity on MySpace and Facebook: Postsecret.com; Synclive.com; and 1-800 SUICIDE The National Hopeline Network.

Through 1-800 SUICIDE–which provides a life-saving service that is private and confidential for people in need–callers are routed directly to the closest crisis center in their immediate area so that quick referrals to behavioral health services and other supports can be offered. Since 1998, 1-800-SUICIDE has received over 3.6 million calls and rescued more than 4,000 individuals who had already initiated suicide plans.

The spokesperson for the PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR 2009, Justin Furstenfeld personally understands the struggles those who are affected by mental health issues face on a daily basis. “It has taken 20 years to have the chance to do a tour focusing on mental health issues which have been a daily battle for me for most of my life,” explains Justin.

“It’s great to finally be a part of a positive, progressive-thinking tour for an important cause which will make a direct impact and help people in desperate situations that need it the most.” In a strange turn of events in his own life, Justin worked at a mental hospital one day and, after suffering a breakdown, became a patient in a hospital the next.

Justin–who has taken medication for the condition since he was a teenager–now teaches creative writing at a mental hospital to young adults affected by mental health issues, self-abuse issues and sexual abuse. Through personal experiences and music, Justin challenges young minds to channel their emotions and anger into creative writing and art versus taking their frustrations out on themselves or the world around them.

He performs his art around the world, sending a message of hope to thousands who know and trust his message because he fights the same battles they fight every day. Justin is living proof that if you reach out and allow yourself to be helped you can lead a beautiful life filled with love, family and career.

“In moments of bravery and confusion and honesty, people turn to 1-800-SUICIDE–over three million of them,” points out Jamie Tworkowski, founder of To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA).

“The folks at the Hopeline Centers have been answering those calls for ten years, picking up the phone when it’s mattered most. Now to help those who will not pick up the phone, together with 1-800-SUICIDE we are launching the first 24×7 online emotional support network called AliveIM!, which will soon be available at www.suicide.net.”

To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA)–a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide–exists to encourage, inform and inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

Since 2006, TWLOHA has responded to over 100,000 messages from people in over 40 different countries and have invested over half a million dollars directly into treatment and recovery, including $50,000 to help fund the AliveIM! support network.

In another innovative move, the tour has partnered with Synclive.com to air live performances from the artists via the Internet as well as provide an immediate online confidential connection for fans in need. Synclive.com will create an essential connection for concertgoers in crisis who are unable to approach a booth at the show in-person either for direct help or to volunteer for the online counseling program.

About the National Hopeline Network 1-800 SUICIDE (784-2433) and the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (KBHC):
After losing his wife, Kristin Brooks to suicide in 1998, Reese Butler founded the Kristin Brooks Hope Center (KBHC), which created the National Hopeline Network 1-800 SUICIDE.

In 2000, Reese gained the support of the late Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN), Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) and obtained more than seven million dollars to expand and support the National Hopeline Network which is comprised of 200 community crisis centers in 48 states.

Callers in crisis to 1800-SUICIDE are routed to the closest crisis center in their immediate area so that quick referrals to behavioral health services and other supports can be offered. Since 1998, 1-800-SUICIDE has received more than 3 million calls and rescued more than 4,000 individuals who had already initiated suicide plans. www.hopeline.com

About To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA):

In 2006, Jamie Tworkowski wrote a story, a glimpse into a friend’s life and her first steps to recovery from drug addiction, self-injury, and depression. The story, titled To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), and t-shirts Tworkowski printed to help pay for his friend’s recovery, started a movement, not only within his local Orlando, FL community, but one that was swiftly embraced by people everywhere.

Realizing a strong need to bring these mental health issues to light, Jamie created TWLOHA–a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide–and enlisted bands such as Paramore, Thrice, Anberlin, Switchfoot, Bayside, The Almost to spread TWLOHA’s message.

Jamie and TWLOHA joined national and international touring bands spreading their message of hope before bands took the stage each night. In August 2007, MySpace awarded TWLOHA the winner of their “Impact Award” for “Community Building,” TWLOHA garnered the most votes in the history of the Impact Awards.

To Write Love on Her Arms began with one broken girl, one painful night; addiction, depression, self-injury. It is the realization of what life can be when people commit to meeting a need. “A friend of mine told me there is no such thing as suicide prevention. This is an attempt to prove him wrong, to say that love can change a life. We can hold back the darkness. Rescue is possible,” says Tworkowski. www.twloha.com

In 2005, the All-American Rejects approached Warren about using images of actual PostSecret images in their “Dirty Little Secret” music video. They offered Warren $1,000, but Warren instead asked them to donate $2,000 to 1800-SUICIDE where Warren is a volunteer.

The donation was made and the music video became one of the most requested on MTV. The National Mental Health Association presented Warren with an award for his work in raising public awareness of Suicide. The PostSecret project has now raised over $210,000 for 1800-SUICIDE. PostSecret was awarded the December 2008 “Myspace Impact Award” and donated 100% of the proceeds to 1-800 SUICIDE.

When it comes to indie music, there are many hotbeds of talent but Sweden is not normally one you would naturally contemplate. Unfortunately, the music history of that nation appears to start and end with Abba for many people, but over the past decade or so, there have been a rising number of bands from Sweden impacting on the indie world.

The the majority noticeable would be The Cardigans who achieved massive world wide fame with their ‘Lovefool’ single and blend of charming and slightly tween indie -pop. Perhaps as a reaction to their fame, The Cardigans change d their style, their music got harder and Nina Persson went from blonde to brunette. They might not feature on the radio as much today as they used to but the band still draws a fairly large crowd to any festival they perform at.

If that has been all that Sweden contributed to independent music, it would be a poor return, but when you think about the following acts, you’ll realise just how many of your preferred tracks have hailed from Sweden:

• The Wannadies

• Peter, Bjorn and John

• The Hives

• The Concretes

• Love Is All

• The Shout out Louds

• I’m From Barcelona

• Jose Gonzalez

• The Knife

For such a short space of time that’s an impressive list of bands and you can be familiar with some of these songs :

‘Young Folks’ by Peter, Bjorn and John

You might not know the title but as soon you hear the whistling section of ‘Young Folks’ you’ll know exactly what the song is and recall what a phenomenon it has been at the time. The track came second in the NME’s list of best tunes of 2006 and fifth in the Pitchfork review of tracks from 2006.

‘Hate To Say I Told You So’ by The Hives

Not a lot of performers might announce themselves as your new preferred band and keep a straight face but The Hives aren’t like a lot of other bands. Filled with a confidence that no other band seems capable of matching this track captured the garage rock revival of the early 2000’s to perfection. The snarling guitar riff and stop-start sections provide the perfect accompaniment to Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist’s trademark yelps and screams.

‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ by The Concretes

Starting off with a guitar riff that might al most have come from the Jesus and Mary Chain, it is a shock when the sweet vocals of Victoria Bergsman kicks in and transforms the song into a delightful and melodic upbeat number. The frantic drum build up to the payoff line for the chorus is joyous and although the band has ploughed on since this 2003 release, they have been unable to match its overall quality.

‘Heartbeats’ by Jose Gonzalez

Although this song has been written by fellow Swedes, The Knife, Jose Gonzalez brought the track to a expansive r audiences. The al most mourning feel of Gonzalez’s downbeat vocals mixed with a quiet acoustic backing ensures this is a song equipped to tug at your heartstrings. Appearing in a major commercial gave the track globally exposure and Jose’s brilliant cover of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Hand on Your Heart’ proved he might take any song and turn it into a downbeat classic.

This is by no means all that Swedish independent has to provide the world but it does provide a fantastic place to start checking this vibrant independent scene in Scandinavia out.

Did you ever study creative writing in English class? When you started your creative writing process you initially may have thought…I don’t know what I’m going to write about, I’m suppose to just write something without spending time thinking about what I’m writing about? Chances are, you could have been thinking this, but before you knew it, you captured 2+ pages of a great story or experience you had before you even stopped writing once. You can apply this same concept when creating indie music from the comfort of your home.

1) Create music extemporaneously.

Whether you try to compose a song on the piano, guitar, or drums etc. playing extemporaneously can really unleash your creativity, and help you compose music that you may not have even believed you were capable of creating. When you create your indie music, unleash your creativity without thinking about it. Don’t think about every note or scale you’re playing, JUST PLAY to create music that is truly unique, and set your music and talents apart from others.

2) Don’t over think when you are creating your music.

The great thing is your music creations will come together must faster if you don’t think too hard about what you’re playing and how it’s sounding. Create your music, and there will be time later to refine what you create.

3) Create indie music that is not overly mechanical and contrived.

To make sure your music sounds real and is a reflection of your creativity, again…JUST PLAY your music by expressing what is inside of you…your rhythm, your creativity etc. The best way to unleash this is to do it naturally, when you’re relaxed, not over critical of every note you’re playing.

4) Create your music in an environment that fosters your creativity.

Like any artist, you want to create your masterpiece in an environment where you feel comfortable and relaxed. Whether that’s your home recording studio, basement or patio etc. make sure you’re in a stress free environment, so your talents can really shine when you’re creating your music.

5) Just play your music like you don’t have a care in the world.

As you do that, you will probably start playing a cool new lick and groove that you were surprised you could create yourself. Remember, your first instinct in expressing yourself through your own music creation, is probably your best instinct.

6) Record your music.

An important note is that you should capture the great new music you create so you can share your creativity with others. Record your music, but try to forget that you’re recording so you can relax and play what comes through your heart and soul.

Unleash your creativity, and don’t over think what you’re doing when you’re creating your indie music…chances are you’ll be extremely pleased with your results.

Although it may seem that country music has been around forever, it has actually only been around since the early 20th century. Although some may call it “cowboy music” the roots of country music may actually be found in the blues, gospel, Celtic and folk music. It began in the early 20th century in the Appalachians of the southeastern USA. Country music is the “working class” music of the south. It oftentimes tells a story or has a moral. In today’s fast-paced, high-tech world, it’s amazing that “old fashioned” country music still has a place in the hearts of so a lot of -even if you listen to it on your ipod or MP3 player.

The 1st country music recording that really got noticed has been of Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter family back in 1927. This type of music had been around for a few years before that, but this has been the “breakthrough album” for the type of. Jimmie Rodgers played what has been called “country folk” and related stories with his songs. He sang about everything from alcohol to women and even included humor in a lot of of his songs. The Carter family has been multi- skill ed and not only sang beautifully, but additionally played skillfully on guitars and other stringed instruments in true Appalachian tradition.

The next “pioneer” of the country music industry was Hank Williams Sr. He took cues from his predecessor, Jimmie Rodgers and sang tunes about life, love, and loss. He died young, just as Mr. Rodgers did but not before passing on his musical genius to his children and eventually his grandchild.

The country scene differ d in the 1960’s just like everything else in the United States. Two branches broke apart and one followed the traditional and the other put more emphasis on a smooth solo vocal and less emphasis on solo instruments- like the rock and roll of the day. This division continues to some degree today.

Still another extensive division occurred in the 1990’s when some of the young performers blended the country sound with some rock and other sounds. This led to more disharmony and some protests by the “old” school country performers.
